We have a new pair of Twins available and this time the difference is coffee beans! We partnered with a local coffee roaster, Cycle Coffee, to see what the impact of different beans have on a coffee beer. A single batch of wort was brewed and then split into two fermenters. Both were fermented with the same yeast at the same temperature. The only difference is that one received Mandarin beans and the other received Yamato beans.
Both beers are full of rich coffee aroma and flavor. This time we went with a little less sweetness and a little lighter body in the beer which makes it more similar to a cold Americano rather than an iced latte.
Yamato is a blend of beans roasted to give more of a rich, dark chocolate flavor. Mandarin is a lighter, single bean coffee that has notes of citrus. So, is there a big difference between the two beers? We will leave that for you to decide. Some people feel they are really different, others think they are almost the same. However, everyone agrees that they are both delicious and we hope you do too!
